Teenage football talent Dishon Howell has received a much-needed boost from Digicel.
The striker, who plays for Pro Shottas Soccer School, is among six players chosen to visit American professional development league club Tormenta FC next month.
His mother, Natasha Howell, said it had been hard trying to raise the funds to help her son realise his dream.
“I’ve been doing everything that I can in order to raise the necessary funds for Dishon. I am so thankful to Digicel, this comes as such a surprise. We got an extension to cover Dishon’s airfare so this comes at exactly the right time,” she said.
Chief executive officer for Digicel, Alex Tasker, remarked: “Digicel remains committed to investing in our nation’s youth. Dishon would have been a product of our Digicel KickStart Academy and after seeing their appeal recently in the press, we thought it necessary to assist him on the next leg of his journey.”
Described by all his coaches as hardworking, dedicated and always giving 100 per cent, Dishon was the lone Barbadian of 12 regional junior footballers who benefited from a training stint with Manchester City last year as part of the Digicel KickStart Academy.
