RBC Royal Bank is closing its Six Roads, St Philip branch, transferring the services to the Broad Street, Bridgetown branch.

Managing Director Robert de Silva told Barbados TODAY in a statement via email that the decision was taken to merge the two branches “after careful consideration” and “as part of managing our business”.

It was not immediately clear how the staff at Six Roads would be impacted, but banking officials said all employees and stakeholders had already been informed, and the bank was in the process of advising its clients about the upcoming change.

de Silva said he was aware the change would result in some inconveniences for customers, but they could take advantage of services such as mobile banking and automated teller machines (ATM) for simple transactions.

“Multiple channels, including mobile, online services and ATMs will remain available to our clients and the community of St Philip for their daily banking needs. For more complex banking advice, clients are welcome to visit our branch on Broad Street or any of our other branches”, the banking executive said.

“These are exciting as well as challenging times for our industry. Our clients’ needs and preferences are continuously evolving and we need to invest in solutions that make banking easier and more convenient for them. We have shared our strategy with our employees and continue open conversations during this process to ensure they are fully informed,” he added.

The RBC head said the bank had been on a journey of re-imaging across the region as it strived to become “a digitally enabled relationship bank to more effectively serve our clients’ banking needs” and enhance the banking experience.
