A 46-year-old St George man has been ordered to keep the peace for the next six months, otherwise he will either have to pay the court $1,000 forthwith or spend a month in jail.
Magistrate Douglas Frederick handed down the sentence Thursday to Sherwyn Orlando Small of 2nd Avenue, Newbury after he pleaded guilty in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court to unlawfully assaulting Eric Gibson on May 8.
According to the facts presented, Gibson went to Scott’s Gap, St Michael to have a word with his son who lives with his mother.
While the two were standing outside having a conversation, Small, who is the woman’s boyfriend, allegedly came and pushed Gibson in the chest. An argument ensued and while Gibson was walking away, Small allegedly went to his car and took out a crowbar, before threatening to “knock [Gibson] out with this”.
Out of fear for his personal safety, Gibson reported the matter to police.
