Illegal dumpers are leaving behind quite a stench for the people of Nursery Close, Eden Lodge, St Michael, filling their only skip with commercial and other waste, according to one resident.
In the latest incident, two men in an open-back vehicle were caught early yesterday morning driving up to the skip and unloading old paintings and tiling into the skip.
“They are doing it at night and in broad daylight. There is black van that comes at night and full up the skip,” the resident, who requested anonymity, complained to Barbados TODAY.
“When it isn’t the coconut men, there are people that come out here with a truck and dump all of their food containers and all kind of the thing.”
He said the illegal dumpers were forcing residents to place their waste next to the skip, thereby posing a health risk, particularly to children at a nearby nursery.
“The garbage is going to be on the road. When the dogs and cats come and scatter it all over the place everything is blowing all around into people gardens and houses, all the flies are flying into your house” the upset resident said, while pleading with the authorities to intervene to end the illegal practice.
