She did herself, and her country proud.
And while the reign as Miss Universe Barbados might be over for Shannon Harris, it’s an experience that she is going to take with her for a lifetime.
Speaking to Bajan Vibes following the Miss Universe Barbados 2017 prize giving ceremony last Thursday at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Harris said it was an incredible journey, which she will remember for the rest of her life.
“It was a great experience. I wouldn’t take it back for anything. It was hard work, it was dedication for sure but the team was amazing. I think they made it easier and enjoyable so I love them for that and they will always be family,” she said.
Harris said it feels like a relief now her official duties are over but stressed that she will remain a part of the team.
“I’m very happy for Lesley (Chapman Andrews), very proud of her. So I will now transition into part of the team. So I’m not going anywhere; I will be with her for the entire journey. I will still be here just in a different position. The team was the greatest ever for me. In every way possible, they were there for me and they are the ones I want to stay with,” she added.
Harris offered some advice to Chapman Andrews, her successor as Miss Universe Barbados, as she prepares for her new journey to the Miss Universe pageant which comes off in November. A location has yet to be announced.
“To Lesley, I’m just going to say for right now it’s going to be endurance and stamina, its going to be a quicker transition because the pageant is in November so she doesn’t have the length of time that I had to prepare. So it’s going to be fast pace, it’s going to be a sprint, and hard work. But we are all going to be there for her for what ever she needs so she just needs to hang in there,” Harris said.
She added, “We will keep you informed for sure on social media. We are all going to be at the pageant as well to support her.”
Harris told Bajan Vibes that though she will still be a part of the Miss Universe Barbados team, she would now be focusing on herself again, after putting many things on hold during her reign as queen.
“I’m going to get back to my career, which is modelling and I’m also going to be doing a couple courses away, which I put off when I won. Will be getting back to my businesses, my upcoming products which you will see soon. I’m going to get back to myself,” she added.
