Ahead of the December 20 opening of Sandals Royal, one local official is reporting that the luxury property is almost fully booked.
Speaking on the sidelines of a job fair at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre this morning, Public Relations Manager of Sandals Barbados David Hinds told Barbados TODAY “we are opening at 90 per cent”.
He also described the response to the job fair as “tremendous”.
“Up to 10:30 this morning we had seen at least 1,700 Barbadians. The fair is for all categories in the hotel. We would have started yesterday with our front office, laundry, engineering departments and today and Wednesday, it will be primarily be [for the] food and beverage department, and point of sale. “We have been encouraged. [The hotel] is set to open on December of this year and we will need roughly 700 persons.
“[In terms of the property], last time I checked, we had been told that everything is on schedule. We have already started accepting bookings and everything for December
20th, so all seems set to open on that date. We are really excited to welcome our first guest to the new property,” Hinds added.
When completed the US$160 million, 222 all-suite resort will feature a number of Sandals firsts, including the first rooftop pool and bar, the first four-lane bowling alley, the first men’s only barbershop, and two new restaurant concepts.
Today, Hinds also reiterated that the planned construction of a Beaches Resort at the site of the old Almond Beach Village in St Peter was still on the cards.
“Heywoods will become Beaches Resort. We are looking to break ground on that hopefully next year,” he said.
