Judging for the NIFCA Culinary Arts is currently underway and the NIFCA Culinary Arts Exhibition is set to open to the public this Saturday, November 4, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
The exhibition will display the works of the winning entrants in the NIFCA 2017 competition. Massy Stores Supermarket is on board this year as a sponsor. Their eventual aim is to identify local products which are for display and sale in the Massy Supermarkets.
BIMAP has also joined the NIFCA family this year with a year-long programme for a Certificate in Management Studies given to awardees in the semi-professional category of the performing arts disciplines of Dance, Theatre and Music. They have also extended their sponsorship to the Culinary Arts with a prize of a course in Entrepreneurship awarded to the exhibitor with the most market-ready product as identified by the judges.
The Best Bajan Cook Competition got a new supporter in the Barbados Tourism Product Authority (BTPA). Like the NCF, they believe that some of the Best Bajan Cooks are unknown and so they hope to highlight the best in native Barbadian cuisine for both locals and visitors.
The Best Bajan Cook have special recipes passed down through generations, or that specific mystery ingredient that makes their dish “5 star quality” in taste. Participants are allowed to prepare and practice for this competition, which enables them to polish their skills and improve their performance.
The semi-final round of the Best Bajan Cook competition was contested last weekend at the Dining Club, Bldg 11, Newton Industrial Estates, Christ Church. There were eight semi-finalists and following their last cook-off, four finalists will be vying for the bragging rights of title Best Bajan Cook; the Enid Maxwell Award comprising of $2,000 cash and a trophy; along with other exciting prizes.
The finalists are 2015 champion Kerry-Ann Walters; previous finalists Kimberly Bourne; and two male newbies Andrew Williams and Lester Moore.
The Best Bajan Cook Final takes place on Saturday, November 1, also at the Dining Club, Bldg 11, Newton Industrial Estates, Christ Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
