A 47-year-old man walked out of the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court a free man today after begging for mercy.
MacDonald Ricardo Whitehall, of Vaucluse Tenantry, Shop Hill, St Thomas, had been on remand at HMP Dodds since February this year on a harassment charge.
And after pleading guilty to assaulting Antonio Small in July 2016, occasioning him actual bodily harm, he was today sentenced to time served.
“Ma’am I have been on remand for the past eight months . . . so I asking for mercy this morning,” Whitehall told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant before his wish was granted.
However, he returns to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on January 25 to face Marguerite Bellamy, the complainant in the harassment suit.
In the meantime, Whitehall must report to the District ‘D’ Police Station every Monday before 10 a.m., with valid identification, until that matter is fully ventilated.
