A 26-year-old man, who is already on remand for a capital offence, was today sentenced to 18 months in prison for burglary.
Jamar Antonio Pile, of Skeetes Road, Jackman’s, St Michael, had earlier pleaded guilty to entering Freekz Customz as a trespasser sometime between January 4 and 6 2014, and stealing a $1,500 television belonging to Patrick Harewood.
Today the court heard that Harewood secured his business on January 4 but discovered that it had been broken into the following day. The matter was reported to police and Pile and another man were held as suspects.
While owning up to the crime, Pile told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today that he was desirous of enrolling into a skills programme at HMP Dodds, but could only do so if he was doing time.
“That is why I pleaded guilty. I don’t want to be sitting there doing nothing, being idle. On that bigger charge [capital offence] it will take sometime and I believe that it’s best to spend it doing something . . . [for] when I [return] to society,” he said.
Pile has already spent 11 months on remand and that time will be taken into consideration.
