A St Michael man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for theft of a motorcycle.
Jamar Antonio Pile, of Skeetes Road, Jackman, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Douglas Frederick today to stealing the $7,000 item belonging to the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited, sometime between October 25 and 26, 2012.
According to the prosecutor, Pile cut through the fence securing ICBL’s compound and rode away with the motorcycle.
But rather than appealing for leniency, the accused man, who is currently serving time in jail, made an unusual request for a consecutive sentence to be imposed on him.
He explained to the magistrate that he was desirous of participating in the programmes being offered at the prison, but could only do so if he was serving a sentence.
His wish was granted.
However, Pile still has a number of other pending charges, including murder.
