Popular Discounts has pledged its financial support to two local charities.
Today, the supermarket made two $5,000 cash donations to the Precious Touch Foundation Inc and to Cancer Support Services.
Director of the Precious Touch Foundation Shakida Belgrave said the monies would be used to honour the wishes of terminally-ill children, while pointing out that “between 2007 and now we have granted about 72 wishes and in the last three months we have lost two children.
“We meet with the child and we find out what the wish is about and we work quickly to turn the wish around,” Belgrave said, while lamenting that some children had passed away before their wishes could be granted.
“Sometimes we had windows of ten days, sometimes we grant a wish and the child dies two days later,” she stressed.
In welcoming the donation to Cancer Support Services, Public Relations Officer Antoine Williams said the funds received would be used to assist patients and their families on their journey with cancer.
