Every year the Lions Club of Barbados South spreads Christmas cheer to the less fortunate in several communities across Christ Church and St Michael by distributing food hampers.
For the past five years this has been made particularly special, as the club was able to present fully cooked Farmer’s Choice hams to deserving families through a joint initiative with Hipac Limited, manufacturers of Farmer’s Choice products.
Hipac Limited Sales and Marketing Manager Mischa Knight was pleased to be able to join forces with the Lions Club of Barbados South for the worthy cause.
She said the company was glad to be in a position to give back, especially during the Christmas season. “This is our way of sharing with those in the community who may otherwise have been unable to have that Bajan tradition of a freshly baked ham on Christmas morning.”
The community project was one of the many initiatives that the South Club undertook throughout the year in assisting families, communities and charities such as the HIV/AIDS Food Bank.
“We prepared and distributed 55 community food hampers this Christmas (this is an annual event), we also have an ongoing feeding programme within one of the secondary schools and we have partnered with the Christ Church Parish church monthly feeding programme, where each mon th at least 12 to 15 families are taken care of,” reported Corlis Weekes-Grazette, chairman of the Club’s public service and welfare committee.
