Hundreds flocked to the beachfront at Dover, on the island’s south coast, to usher in the New Year as the Ocean Two Resort & Residences delivered another awesome fireworks display and a party to welcome 2018.
Locals and visitors turned out for the luxury resort’s sixth annual themed party, I am Caribbean, and sang and danced against the backdrop of rolling waves, inviting decor and radiant skies.
On the stroke of the midnight magic hour, to the sultry strains of Auld Lange Syne, the venue erupted in cheers and greetings of Happy New Year as the popping sounds of fireworks lit-up the sky.
On the pool-deck of the wave-swept luxury resort, it was a party within a party for the Mullalli family of New York, who are of Albanian heritage.
Twenty-four year-old Ervin Mullalli chose the New Year’s Eve occasion to propose marriage to fiancee Zina Kacanic in the presence of family and friends.
That made the party extra-special for them and a champagne celebration that father Aleksander Mullalli was proud of.
“This is our first visit and we love it. It was a proud and enjoyable night for us and we are going to remember it for a long time . . . the people are great and the rum is great,” he said.
Outside, along the Dover beach strip, the bewitching colours that painted the night sky also pulled hundreds to the waterfront to capture the amazing fireworks display on their mobile devices.
Once the fireworks were over, the DJ kept the audience dancing to a range of mostly popular Caribbean hits and while the older party-goers gradually retreated the more energetic continued way past midnight, ringing in the new year.
“It was a really nice party. Nineteen of us came from England to Ocean Two and we really enjoyed ourselves,” said British visitor Phil Perry, who also is on his first visit to Barbados with family and friends.
General Manager of Ocean Two Resort Paul Collymore said they were pleased to deliver another enjoyable experience to guests and fellow Barbadians.
“Over the years, our New Year’s Eve party has become highly anticipated by guests and other Barbadians and we go the extra mile to make it a really enjoyable occasion . . . fireworks and all. We thank everyone for their support and wish them a healthy and prosperous 2018,” Collymore said.
New Year’s Eve parties at Ocean Two are always themed events with an element of fun, and their fireworks displays are growing in popularity each year.
