A serial offender showed some remorse today as he pleaded guilty today to stealing a folding table, four dining room chairs, a mahogany stand, a bed, a wardrobe, a dressing table, two storage bins and six shirts from the home of brothers Mathew Cumberbatch and Damien Applewhaite sometime between November 7 and December 3 last year.
“I am sorry to the court and the person that I did the damage,” Richard Dacosta Boyce, who had 59 previous convictions, told Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court.
“I was working. I did not have to get into this,” the 50-year-old said before he was sentenced to 18 months at HMP Dodds.
However, 40-year-old Susan Angelina Cozier of Water Hall Land, Eagle Hall, St Michael, who also appeared before Fredrick charged with handling some of the stolen items, was freed on bail, despite being on bail for a previous matter.
Cozier, who was represented by attorney-at-law Shadia Simpson, is accused of dishonestly receiving a coffee table and a bed frame belonging to Applewhaite sometime between December 2, 2017 and January 9.
The prosecution did not object and Cozier was released on $3,000 bail, with a strong warning from the magistrate to avoid further trouble.
The case against her will continue on March 3.
