An ongoing domestic dispute resulted in 24-year-old Chad Jamar Giddings of 2nd Avenue, Green Hill, St Michael having a one-night stay at Dodds.
Giddings has been charged with assaulting the mother of his children, Lakeita Springer, on January 9, occasioning her actual bodily harm.
However, because Springer was unable to attend the hearing at District ‘A’ Magistrate Court today because she said there was no one to take care of the children, but gave the assurance that she would be there tomorrow, Magistrate Douglas Frederick said he would remand Giddings for the night as a precaution.
Giddings had pleaded not guilty to the charge, explaining that he had been granted $3,000 bail on a similar charge and warned to stay away from the Springer, but she “always coming round me”.
He said on the day in queston he was sitting in an area when Springer came, placed one child in his lap and sat the other next to him, and left.
“I take them back but it look as though she wanted me to hit she, but I didn’t . . . [but] she scratch me in the face,” Giddings said, adding that he went to the police station to report the matter but she beat him to it.
“I does run from she, but she catch me [on that day],” he added.
The prosecutor objected to his release on the grounds that the accused was likely to reoffend, because of the other charge to which Giddings had referred.
The magistrate made it clear that he was not taking the matter lightly given the seriousness of domestic violence.
