A 32-year-old St Philip man, who bit the hand of his ex girlfriend after she informed him she was no longer interested in a relationship with him, has one month to pay the court $750.
Dewayne Covlin Yarde, of Block 8E, Church Village, admitted to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Lasheena Brathwaite on December 10, 2017.
According to Sergeant Theodore McClean, the two were involved in a brief relationship that ended due to Yarde’s behaviour.
On the aforementioned date Brathwaite was at a bar in Black Rock, St Michael when Yarde tried to engage her in conversation in a bid to rekindle the relationship. She reportedly told him she was not interested and attempted to walk off, but Yarde pursued her.
In expressing her frustration over his behaviour, Brathwaite started to gesticulate. It was at that point that the accused allegedly bit her on the hand and threw some liquid on her before fleeing the scene. The incident was reported to police and Yarde later turned himself in.
“It was just a bruise on her finger. She was provoking me by not talking to me,” Yarde told Magistrate Douglas Frederick, who told him “you need counseling”.
The magistrate made it clear that there was no provocation on Brathwaite’s part as she was not speaking to Yarde.
If Yarde fails to pay the costs imposed by the magistrate he will have to spend one month in prison.
