Crop Over may be some months away, but one local Foreday Morning band is already trying to get the summer festival started.
Adinkra has launched its Crop Over pre-party entitled, ‘Soca Saturdays’, which runs from January 27 until February 10 at the Payne’s Plaza car park, Collymore Rock, St Michael.
Organizers Damien Best and Ryan Leacock told Bajan Vibes the idea was to kick-start the festival season from early.
“We are doing a Foreday Morning band, but we are starting early because there is a vibe and a niche for it and we believe that people want to come out and party and enjoy themselves,” Leacock said, adding that “it is just to have people coming out on a Saturday to enjoy, kick back and relax.
“We got food drinks, music and more activities as Crop Over approaches.”
The organizers also explained that Crop Over for them was all about unity; hence the name Adinkra, which in West African culture is symbolic of togetherness.
The band, which is now in its second year, has been holding fast to its unity concept.
“We have no sections and we keep it intimate because we believe in unity. We had a great experience last year, the band was well organized, [and] all the feedback from our patrons was definitely a ‘yes’ for this year,” Leacock said.
