Governor General Dame Sandra Mason has been honoured by the Mount Zion Kingdom Ministries for her exemplary service to the Barbadian society and her recent installation as the island’s second female Governor General.
The Governor General, who normally does not deliver speeches at unofficial events, addressed the Mount Zion congregation, expressing her gratitude for their celebratory church service.
“I want to say an extremely sincere special ‘thank you’ for this ministry today. It will certainly go down in my records,” Dame Sandra said.
Apostle Lucille Baird applauded the former High Court judge who played as active role in the church, describing her as a visionary and “ a woman of dignity, honesty, integrity”.
The pastor also used her address to appeal to citizens to unite amid the current social and economic problems affecting the country.
She also called for pray and intercession for the people of Barbados while expressing concern that there has been a spiritual and moral decline.
“In today’s Barbados there is a need now more than ever to pray and intercede for our country . . . . It is time to pray and intercede when children are stabbing each other on public transportation or in the classroom. It is time to pray and intercede when our school children are being robbed of their virtue and their morals and their future by adults that should know better . . . . It is time to pray when our country’s economy is under stress and we are challenged with the threat of devaluation,” Baird said.
