The world’s oldest active rum distillery is celebrating 315 years of existence by encouraging its customers to take time out of their busy schedules and bond socially with each other once again.
Staff of Mount Gay Distilleries staged a motorcade through Bridgetown yesterday evening not only to celebrate that milestone, but also to launch its new advertising slogan Time Well Spent.
Managing Director of the company, Raphael Grisoni, told Barbados TODAY, “In this world where we are all super busy with our work and our activities, always on our phones, this is our way to say, stop the work, stop the clock and spend some time with your nearest and dearest, and our product will enable you to build and develop those bonds with the people in your life.”
Grisoni said the advertisements produced so far for the campaign, including the posters prominently displayed on the party bus accompanying the motorcade, “Have rung a bell with consumers in Barbados, as it showcases our people in different atmospheres, like a rum shop sharing with their friends, or in a nice restaurant or villa, so it appeals to everyone.”
As the motorcade made its way through The City, particularly along Tudor Street and Broad Street, staff and patrons alike at the various businesses on the route came out to witness the spectacle, dance to last year’s Crop Over hits, and partake of the free drinks and other giveaways the employees were distributing.
These included T-shirts, cups, and vouchers to visit the Mount Gay Visitors Centre at Spring Garden.
According to the Managing Director, “We have about 30,000 tourists coming to the centre, but at end of the day Mount Gay is a Barbadian brand. So we want Barbadians to come and discover the history of rum, learn the story of Mount Gay itself, as well as to sample the products we offer and mixes prepared by our bartenders using our products, so I am expecting to see lots of people coming over based on the amount of vouchers we handed out today.”
