A 57-year-old man, who stole ten newspapers on February 18, must be on his best behaviour for a year.
If Ricardo Octavius Fowler, of no fixed place of abode, does not adhere to the bond imposed by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant and is found guilty of any crime within that time, he will have to spend six months at HMP Dodds.
According to the prosecutor, the newspapers, valued at $25, were delivered on the steps of a pharmacy by Derrick Forde on the aforementioned date, as was customary.
However, when he returned sometime later the items were missing before Fowler was spotted on CCTV taking them. He was arrested in the Belleville area five days later.
The papers were not recovered. However, Fowler wasted little time when asked by the magistrate today to explain his actions.
“It’s true I take up the papers,” he said.
