A 40-year-old landscaper, who pleaded guilty to assault, will know his fate when he returns to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on March 23.
Reynold Marlon Smart, of 4th Avenue, Free Hill, Black Rock, St Michael, has admitted to unlawfully and maliciously committing the act against Henderson Burnett on February 22.
The two men reside in the same house with other family members.
On the aforementioned date Smart arrived home and started to argue with Burnett about the manner in which he treats his grandmother all the while waving his finger in the complainant’s face before pushing him. Burnett warned him to stop before heading into the bedroom, which he shares with his girlfriend.
However, according to the prosecutor, Smart was not satisfied and followed Burnett into the room where he armed himself with a sword.
Burnett responded by taking up a knife even as he held on to the sword in order to avoid being attacked with it.
However, Smart still managed to pull the sword, cutting Burnett in the process.
The matter was then reported to police.
Today there were no objections to bail and Smart was released on $2,500 bail on condition that he lives with his surety until the matter is adjudicated.
When the matter comes up again in court, Burnett is due to give his side of the incident and to discuss the issue of compensation.
