A 60-year-old man will spend the night at HMP Dodds after he was unable to present a surety to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today.
Adwin Alonza Cumberbatch, nee Bowen, of My Lords Hill, St Michael, appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant on three charges of theft.
However, Cumberbatch, who is represented by attorney Mohia Ma’at, pleaded not guilty to stealing two tins of luncheon meat, two tins of sardines, two tins of tuna and two tins of corn beef worth $40.30 belonging to ANSR Investment Limited on Valentines Day. He also denied stealing two chocolates from the same company on March 27 worth $29. 55 as well as two umbrellas worth $1,600 belonging to Sugar Bay Barbados on March 23.
There were no objections to bail by the prosecutor who asked that conditions be attached to Cumberbatch’s release.
The accused will get another chance at bail tomorrow when he returns to court.
