Kyle Gale has won CARIFTA glory for Barbados.
Earlier tonight, the St Michael School student not only won the island’s first gold medal in the regional three-day tournament at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in the Bahamas, but he also smashed retired Jamaican sensation Usain Bolt’s Under 17 400 metre record in the process.
With a time of 47.07 seconds, Gale dashed home ahead of Trinidad & Tobago’s Avindale Smith (47.54 seconds) and the Bahamas’ Raymond Oriaki (47.75 seconds) who finished second and third respectively.
In the process, Gale also eclipsed Bolt’s 16-year record of 47.33 seconds, which was set in 2002 in the Bahamas.
