A 38-year-old man, accused of wounding the mother of his child, was granted $3,000 bail when he appeared in court today.
Brian McDonald Worrell, of Military Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, pleaded not guilty to unlawfully and maliciously committing the act against Tonya George on April 1 and to trespassing on her premises on the same day after having been forbidden to do so.
Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim objected to bail for the accused “given what’s trending in society at this time”. This was an obvious reference to a recent love triangle which ended in death.
The prosecutor also pointed out that Worrell was already on bail for another matter and had been charged in the past for an offence against the same woman, although she later dismissed the case.
However, after hearing from the alleged victim who said she was not fearful of Worrell, the magistrate agreed to grant him bail with one surety.
He returns to court on May 26.
In the meantime, the accused must stay away from George until the matter is adjudicated.
