A 24-year-old beach vendor, who pleaded guilty to assaulting a visitor, began a six-month sentence at HMP Dodds today.
Shaquan Akeem Prosper, of Belair, St Philip, admitted before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant to assaulting Madeline Whiffen on April 14.
According to the prosecutor Whiffen and a friend were at a bar in Dover, Christ Church, around 2 a.m. when Prosper began making inappropriate advances to her friend. He became aggressive after he was informed that the friend was not interested. The women then walked away.
But Prosper reportedly jumped out of a car sometime later, again approaching Whiffen her in an aggressive manner. She became fearful when he began making punching motions in her face. He subsequently got back into the car and was driven away.
The matter was reported to police and Prosper was seen and arrested at another nightclub four days.
“I was not aware that speaking to a person was assaulting them,” Prosper told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today after the facts were detailed.
However, it was also revealed that Prosper was not only known to the court but was already on bail for allegedly issuing threating words.
