A 24-year-old fish vendor has been remanded to prison for the next 28 days.
Raheem Jaque Lewis, of eighth Avenue, New Orleans, St Michael, was not required to plead to the charge that he stole a $150 Barbados passport, a $200 handbag, $300 in cash and four panties worth $40 belonging to Ikema Sobers, sometime between April 9 and 19. He will appear in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court on April 25 to answer that charge.
However, he admitted to assaulting Sobers on April 20.
The prosecutor said Sobers got out of a relationship with Lewis due to constant abuse.
On the aforementioned date she was walking through Queen’s Park, The City, when Lewis confronted her.
“You ain’t going to hear what I say. I tell you to keep my child from round Kathy,” he allegedly told Sobers who ignored him.
Her actions angered Lewis who reportedly cuffed her in the head multiple times before she fell to the ground.
Lewis was later arrested.
Today, the prosecutor objected to bail for Lewis, who was already on bail on another matter.
However, while insisting that he did not trouble Sobers first, the accused said: “I would like some bail today.
“This girl come down by my mother’s place and harassing me Ma’am, I would like some bail. Give me a chance,” Lewis said in his application, which was denied.
He returns to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on May 18.
