“I don’t deserve bail!”
This was the admission of 23-year-old Dario Jason Watts, of Lot 6 Smith Road, St Michael, after pleading guilty before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today to throwing stones along the Princess Royal Road and damaging a car belonging to Shakeila Cadogan on April 16.
Sergeant Cameron Gibbons told the court that one of the stones hit Cadogan’s windshield on the driver’s side and broke it.
However, Watts, who is a professional jockey, immediately fled the scene.
Today, the magistrate adjourned the matter until May 4, in order for the complainant to appear in court after Gibbons informed the court that police were not yet in possession of an estimate for the damage.
The prosecutor then asked that Watts be kept in custody until that time as he had failed to attend court after police have granted him station bail.
“The police had to arrest him again and we fear if granted bail he may not return to court on the mentioned date,” Gibbons said.
Instead of fighting for his freedom, Watts said: “I don’t deserve bail. I was given a chance and I didn’t show up.”
