ST JOHN – Prime minister Gaston Browne has admitted that Antigua & Barbuda may eventually have to bend to global pressure to repeal laws banning homosexual activity.
The prime minister told state media LGBTI issues were discussed at the just ended Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting and “there are some countries that are very bullish about the issue”.
This means “that within the region we will see increased pressure to address certain laws that may be discriminatory and again even though they may go against our religious sensibilities, those are issues that the international community is pushing right now”, he said.
The prime minister said Belize and Trinidad have already been confronted with the issue and it is only a matter of time before the pressure reaches the shores of Antigua & Barbuda.
“We have to be at least aware that these discussions are taking place so that we can start to condition our mind that eventually, they will be changes; if not voluntary, they’ll be forced.” He added. (ANR)
He is right. Stranger things will happen. The end is nearer. And dont tell me we have been hearing that for centuries. It will get worse

To the gay world it DOESN’T matter what black people think , because they have no real INFLUENCE in the big wide gay world,, its like it or lump it………..
IT’S ABOUT TIME, AS IT IS NOT ONLY BACKWARD, it is hypocritical. This old outdated law only service to protect perpetrators and to make victims ashamed and afraid to come forward. If it’s consensual it should be a none issue. However, no one have to look far and hard to see most perpetrators are adults who prey on youths and at the same time pretend there are not gay folks in the Caribbean. I am more concern about the increase in arm robberies and murders rather than worry myself about gay people going about their personal lives.
It’s a shame the region have to amend the laws to attract business and appease the international community instead of recognizing citizens basic human rights in the first place.
Gay people do not attack or rob me…therefore there should be no laws condemning them but instead laws for criminals that run amoke and wreck havoc on communities.
