Windies Test and ODI skipper Jason Holder has been appointed the skipper of Barbados Tridents, ahead of the 2018 Caribbean Premier League.
Holder, who was out on national duties on a tour to England last year, will return to bolster his home team in the CPL after they failed to qualify for the knockout stages in 2017.
“I am delighted to be back at the CPL for this season and I am really looking forward to making Barbados proud in 2018,” Holder said. “We have a healthy contingent of local players in the squad this year and we are ready to make this a winning year for our home team.”
The 26-year-old will bolster the strength of the outfit with his all-round skills. Holder, who has captained West Indies in 77 matches, has 56 wickets from 74 T20s and has scored 472 runs at a strike-rate of 125. Holder, as Windies’ Test skipper, has four wins, 13 losses and four draws. In ODIs, he has won 16, lost 36 and one match has ended in a tie.
Shamar Springer, the Tridents all-rounder, expressed his joy and is looking forward to playing under Holder. “Jason is a world-class player and a world-class captain that I have always looked up to as an example to follow. I am really excited to play under him and I am confident he will get the best out of the Tridents team this year when the CPL gets underway.”
