A 41-year-old cook had to pay the court a $350 fine today in order to avoid spending three months in jail.
Paul Anthony Seale, of Passage Road, St Michael, had to pay the forthwith amount to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded guilty to stealing a $1,600 cellular phone belonging to Esther Arthur on May 2.
According to the prosecutor, Arthur was at a hair salon on Tudor Street, St Michael, yesterday when she keyed in an appointment on the device, placed it in her bag and left.
She subsequently reached for her phone but could not find it. Therefore, she returned to the salon where she made several enquires to no avail.
However, using a feature on another smart phone, she later tracked the device on Chapel Gap, Paynes Bay, St James.
Police were called in and when caught with the stolen device Seale reportedly said that he had found it in town.
A restitution order was granted in order for Arthur to get back her property.
