Twenty-six people were injured on the grounds of the Hilton Barbados when an inflated slide collapsed at the resort’s 11-plus It’s Over event just around 3:20 p.m.
Police Public Relations Officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss told Barbados TODAY 12 of the injured were taken to the Accident & Emergency Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital; six were discharged while another eight sought treatment at a private medical facility.
Among the injured were 11 girls, two babies, eight boys and five women.
Inniss said 200 children and close to 100 adults were attending the event celebrating the end of today’s Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examination.
Police, personnel from the Barbados Defence Force, the Ambulance Service, Emergency Medical Technicians, and a team of seven fire officers led by their Deputy Chief Henderson Patrick responded to the incident, which was treated as a mass casualty.
