Barbados Basketball Officials Association [BARBOA] are now under the care of Neutrogena after both parties agreed to a two-year sponsorship deal this afternoon at Belfield, Black Rock, St Michael.
The partnership will provide the 35 active referees with uniforms and whistles among other necessities, as this is the first time BARBOA has been officially sponsored by a company which former president and floor member Rene Batson said would go towards the development of referees.
“We have been trying for a number of years to get sponsorship, we have had people donating stuff, but we never had a full sponsorship, so we are grateful for this and hopefully it would be a long-term process that we could develop.
“We are finally glad to get some sort of sponsorship for the referees’ association. Everybody normally associates themselves with clubs and teams, so I am glad somebody came on board and sponsored the officials to further educate themselves,” Batson said.
During the handing over of the cheque, brand manager for Massy Distribution and the product Neutrogena, Nadia Greenidge, said on behalf of her company that sports is important and they liked to place great emphasis on the importance of sun care and corporate responsibility.
“When I think of Neutrogena I think about sports and when BARBOA approached me, I thought this would be a good thing for my brand. Massy Distribution is a company where we think that corporate responsibility is very important to us, so as a company and as a brand manager if there is anything I could do to assist when approached I would,” said Greenidge, who assured that the partnership between Neutrogena and BARBOA would be a longlasting one.
“At Neutrogena our focus is the importance of sun care, why we should use sunblock because I find we as black people think it is not relevant, but sun care and blocks are very important,” Greenidge said.
