Home / Local News / Economy / BUDGET: Government abolishes NSRL
Effective July 1, the National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL) will be repealed, Prime Minister Mia Mottley today announced.
The controversial tax, which resulted in a substantial hike in goods, moved from two per cent to ten per cent last July.

@ MEAKAI, you have a point. When I order certain goods online when they get here they are charged duty and VAT. Will we be double paying VAT.
The DLP LACKEYS , TWIST MOUT ECONOMISTS,SCRATCH GRAIN ECONOMISTS .MECHANICAL ECONOMISTS and other YARD FOWLS,PIMPS and PALING COCKS on this blog said that PM MIA CANNOT abolish the NSRL,CANNOT give PENSIONERS INCREASES CANNOT abolish ROAD TAX,CANNOT GIVE CIVIL SERVANTS an increase,CANNOT do this and the THIRD.
Now that she has DONE IT…wonder what will be their TONE of comments now.One thing I know for sure they ALL will be MISERABLE and GRUMBLING NOW more than ever.
Definition of miserable…. unhappy, sad, sorrowful, dejected, depressed, downcast, downhearted, down, despondent, disconsolate, wretched, glum, gloomy, dismal, melancholy, woebegone, doleful, forlorn, heartbroken.
Can any of those above DLP nerds choose the one which most accurately describes you . do it BEFORE sleep intervenes to give all ya a REPRIEVE of all ya GRUMBLINGS and get back to me before Joe Bloke starts his reply tomorrow
Big Man, you still singing in the George Street Choir for your supper and not realizing that since May 24 there is no supper to sing for. The DLP is dun…dun, dun. I see Solutions Barbados as the most eligible opposition in this county, if they will just step up to the plate.
big man or big woman, you still in bed with the Demolites, which you going by tonight, jones or todd, cause you love dem madness bad
Big child,i wonder what you,Patty, samantha Best,Johnny Crow ,Kevin,Alex Alleyneand mark my Word gotta say after Ms motley delivered on almost everything she promised. She raised old age pensions, abolished the nuisance NSRL tax,put aside money to buy Garbage Trucks, abolish uwi fees, things that you Dems claim she could not do.The difference is this PM is communicating with the people and is decisive in what she does, leading from the front unlike the ex PMwho led from the back, and could not make a decision on most things, that is the big difference so you all could bellyache everydaybased on the feedback from people in the street they unlike you have faith in Ms motley and so do i.so you could like it or lump it ,or go join your ex MP,s on the political dump heap.
Don’t forget CCC
I`m going to parliament at George Street on the next sitting when Maureen will be speaking on “if Barbados is ready for “Miss. Mottley for PM.” The Boomer will give his lecture on why “I like Freundel Stuart`s style as PM.”
A promise made and a promise kept. The NRSL was an egregious tax and simply had to go. There are and were other means to generate tax revenue but simply said it was a blight on the economy and the masses and did not achieve the revenue projections forecasted by the previous government. Good riddance.
@ Harry Turnover – I do not agree with you that because people are DLP supporters they will be sad because of this mini budget.
DLP supporters are Barbadians first just like the rest of us here and I believe they want better for Barbados.
This budget will cause all DLP supporters to wonder what the hell the DLP were doing while in office.
PM Mottley seems to be twelve notches above the outgoing PM.
Didn’t the PM tell us ‘watch muh’? Well, she delivered in style and the beauty of it all is that the private sector has been in agreement that there has to be some pain before we get back to a desirable outcome.
I can see Barbados making a turn around and the delight on the faces of most people will show that Barbados is indeed, again open for business.
Now, my people, let us stop this BLP, DLP thing and be civil to each other. Time to grow up. At some time in the past, both parties messed up.
Time to embrace our new Prime Minister and her way of getting things done- with certainty and decisiveness.
And what happened as it related to the Psv government to buy new buses but the PSV still have the 34year old bus bus fare still #2,$ no duty free.
