Unable to secure a surety, KeKalia Latania Layne will have no choice but to sleep on a mattress at HMP Dodds tonight.
When the 33-year-old unemployed woman of Reece Road, Brittons Hill, St Michael, appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today, she pleaded not guilty to two charges.
Layne denied causing serious bodily harm to Shannelea Forrester on June 10, 2018, as well as stealing an $85 purse and $450 in cash belonging to Forrester on the same date.
And while Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant was willing to offer the accused woman bail as there was no objection from the prosecutor, Layne could not find a surety by the time the court’s business was concluded for the day.
As a result she was remanded to prison overnight. Layne will reappear in court tomorrow.
