The Wild and Exotic Grand Kadooment Band is bringing sexy felines to the Spring Garden Highway on August 6.
The new band debuted their designs for Cats on Sunday at 2nd Street Holetown . Traffic was at a standstill across the West Coast night hub as some of the most popular tunes from the season blared through the speakers. Tourists and locals stood in the street to get a glimpse of the band’s Crop Over 2018 designs.
The band, which is led by Edward Ayoung, debuted seven sections, which were designed by Trinidadian Ian Mckenzie. The sections included Wild Cats, Tiger Cats, Red Cats, Purple Cats, Black Cats and Blue Cats.
Band coordinator Kimlee Ayoung informed Bajan Vibes that count down to the jump up was promising, as the newly launched band has gathered interests from locals and visitors since they unveiled their costumes. She revealed that they were expecting approximately 400 masqueraders on the road for Grand Kadooment.
Taking into consideration the country’s tight fiscal circumstances, Ayoung disclosed that the costumes would range from US$350 to $575.
“They are simple but they are still nice and affordable,” she said while adding that the band would be offering payment plans to financially accommodate its revellers.
“We are hopeful and we look forward to Kadooment Day. We are ready to masquerade,” she added.
The band launch for Wild and Exotic also intertwined with Insane Foreday Morning Band. The band’s leader Don Chango paid homage to Bajan culture and cuisine with his concept Bajan Sweet Treats. The band’s delectable four sections included Jam Puff, Sugar Cake, Black Bitch and Tamarind Ball. The jou’vert band will be catering to 250 persons.
Chango who has been designing for Grand Kadooment and Foreday Morning for the past nine years, told Bajan Vibes that despite the increased interest in private jumps, he expected hundreds to come out for the annual jou’vert jump up.
“You might have some going to the private jumps but there is still quite a lot sticking with Foreday because it is very affordable,” he said. (KK)
