Devon Ewing-Chow was shocked to learn today from her mom that she had received 100 in Mathematics in the Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examination.
“ I thought she was tricking me or I was dreaming or something like that,” she told Barbados TODAY as the news began to sink in.
While always confident about her performance, Ewing-Chow admitted to being “a bit scared” about her English essay, but with the help of several practice papers, she was able to breeze through her exams.
Today, however, her celebrations were somewhat impeded, as the school held back her full results while awaiting her mother’s permission.
However, that did not stop Ewing-Chow from celebrating her Mathematics result, which said was the result of heavy studying, with the support of family and friends, and the excellent foundation laid by teachers at her school.
“I thought that I had learned everything I needed, so I just needed to check over and be really careful [during the actual exam],” she said.
Meantime, Leanna Cumberbatch of St Gabriel’s placed nineth overall in this year’s results with 239.32 and an ‘A’ in Composition. She will be attending Queen’s College in September.
However, she was not at school when Barbados TODAY visited this afternoon.
