The co-principal of Wills Primary School, Julia Franklin, could not contain her excitement when she found out that one her students – Chloe Lozada – was counted among the Top ten in this year’s Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examination, commonly referred as the 11-plus.
Lozada will be heading to Queen’s College in September after attaining a total score of 239.32 ‘A’.
Speaking to Barbados TODAY about her performance, Franklin attributed her school’s success to the fact that it was a family oriented institution, with modest class sizes.
“It comes as no surprise because we have super top-notch teachers,” she added, while stating that “our expectations are high and our kids deliver”.
An emotional Chloe, who was still in shock after hearing that she was in the Top ten, told Barbados TODAY her hard work had paid off.
“I have a big family so there was a lot of noise but I had to block that and study for the exam,” she said, adding that “I am happy that I am going to Queen’s College”.
Meantime, ten-year-old Janae Herbert, who was an early sitter, will be attending The St Michael’ School in September after she scoring 89 in English and 93 in Mathematics, with a ‘B’ in Composition.
She told Barbados TODAY that from the time she came to the school she got a great reception.
“From the time I came to this school it was great. Great is an understatement actually,” she said.
Meantime, the school will be celebrating the achievements of all 22 of its students who sat the Common Entrance with a Bajan Bus tour tomorrow.
“We are immensely proud of every single one of them. When we think about the averages, the lowest average is 70 something and that is in one subject and not an overall average,” she pointed out, adding that “of course there will be huge celebrations.
Out of the 22 students who sat this year’s exam at Wills Primary, four students will be attending Harrison College, four Queen’s College, two The St Michael School, six Christ Church Foundation School, three The Lodge School and three Deighton Griffith Secondary. (LG)
