Hit and run driver Tre Raheem Thompson was today fined $1,350 for committing four traffic offences.
The 25-year-old, of 4th Avenue Land, Bush Hall, St Michael, pleaded guilty to driving without reasonable consideration for other road users, as well as having no insurance, no driver’s licence and leaving the scene of an accident on Bank Hall Road on June 18.
After taking his father’s vehicle without permission on the aforementioned date, it was involved in a collision with another vehicle around 2:45 a.m.
Thompson, who immediately fled the scene, was later forced to abandon the vehicle when it broke down.
However, he subsequently turned himself in to police.
Today, he told Magistrate Graveney Bannister he fled the scene out of fear.
“I was afraid, so I drove,” he said.
However, the magistrate made it clear that the court did not tolerate persons driving without the appropriate licences.
“I understand your fear knowing you are in hot water for the first time, but leaving the scene of the accident is very serious,” the magistrate said as he imposed the fines, which had to be paid forthwith.
The money was paid.
