Janelle Headley and the team of Operation Triple Threat CONGRATULATIONS!, well done!
Let me be honest with you, I usually have to leave Barbados when I am in need of great theatre . . . get my fill and return . . . I have seen enough of your productions now to know I don’t need to leave so often!
I rode up in the elevator with the new manager of the Daphne Joseph Hackett Theatre. She seemed a bit overwhelmed by the excitement all around her, but retained control. Theatre does so much for the human soul. This theatre, we lobbied so hard for and appreciate the productions fourfold because of it. We of course will be ecstatic to see the Empire refurbished and ohhhhh, the quality of production it will attract! Theatre, with public support will have the Barbadian spirit soaring again.
Honk was exceptional! The youngsters commanded their roles. They held complete sovereignty over the stage. We cannot imagine the hours of rehearsal that went into the production. Starting on time with the national anthem, the excitement of the parents and well wishers and audience was palpable. The story of Honk, though a well-known tale, the genius that is in the background of this production made it delightfully new. The children ranged in age seemingly from four to 18 and each of them had their wonderful talents being tapped and developed and displayed for our consumption and oh did we delight in their talent, the costumes, the energy, the humour understated and in every line, and joy with which the children carried out their roles. We could see that they enjoyed themselves and they delighted in pushing themselves with the challenge of delivering their roles to us in an entertaining fashion. There were some exceptional characters – the cat, oh the cat, she blew us away, captivated the audience, held the stage as though she were born on it! Her voice, well trained even at her tender age, her gesticulations, every move of the child was extraordinary – a huge talent. And each of those children under the hand of Operation Triple Threat is doing what our education system has yet to, begun developing the human spirit of our children! Well done, very well done, Honk is definitely a must-see in these coming weekends! Thank you OTT!
