Judges will have a hard time selecting the winner of the 2018 Sweet Soca competition after a night of spectacular performances.
Bobo invoked showers of blessing as he graced the stage, delivering a sound rendition of Rain to kickstart the competition at the packed Bushy Park.
However, the downpour failed to cramp his delivery or the response of the crowd that visibly enjoyed the spectacular performance of the first-time Sweet Soca finalist.
The competition only got better when 2014 People’s Monarch Imani gave an outstanding performance of All Day Long. She brought the party vibes while showcasing her powerhouse vocals.
The man who did a double whammy back in 2012 winning the Sweet Soca and Party Monarch Competitions took to the stage with a vengeance.
From the opening of Feting Family, Mikey certified his presence as a tough competitor as the crowd threw their hands in the hair and were jamming for the near three-minute performance.
Hundreds joined in the chorus singing ‘We are one big feting family’ during the awesome performance.
Marvay was next on stage but while his sweet vocals captured the audience with the popular At Large, there was a sense that he was not on top of his game.
Two-time calypso king, AC’s Soca You was sweet and sugary. The veteran performer’s arrangement and presentation was well received by the young and old who were grooving to the song.
Another staple in local calypso competitions, Biggie Irie’s performance of his song Country was big favourite of the night.
Lil Rick was clearly determined to claim the Sweet Soca title as his own.
A clear crowd favourite based on the resounding cheers he received during his performance, Rick’s presentation was humorous and engaging.
However, it is questionable whether the judges would gobble the breakfast he served up this year.
In 2015, Sanctuary placed third with Mega Monday, tonight his performance of Fete Loan was good but may notbe enough to steal the crown.
Meanwhile, defending Pic-O-De-Crop monarch, iWeb closed the Sweet Soca competition with colourful fireworks and a confetti display.
He reminded the audience about the high soca lovers receive from the sweet sounds of Crop Over with Best In Me.
The competition has closed and the crowd is eagerly anticipating the results as the party to the sounds of DJ Diamond.
