A 28-year-old general worker, who stole $80 to purchase cocaine, has been remanded to the Psychiatric Hospital for assessment.
Leroy Cecil Bartlett gave the accused Dario Renaldo Brathwaite, of no fixed of abode, the money on July 9 to buy him two blocks of cheese.
However, Brathwaite did not return with the items or the money.
“I was on cocaine. I used the money to buy cocaine and crack,” Brathwaite told Magistrate Douglas Frederick today.
He also revealed that while he had been assessed for drug rehabilitation he was never accepted into a programme and would like the opportunity to get help for his addiction.
“I am willing to go again,” Brathwaite said.
Given his plea the magistrate remanded him to the mental institution where doctors will assess his suitability for rehabilitation.
Brathwaite returns to the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court on August 22.
