There is no doubt about it, the annual Splash Pool Party should be added to the Crop Over list of “must do” events.
Each year, party animals journey to the Beach House, St James to the all-inclusive event for a night of exciting entertainment, endless food and drinks and a great vibe.
And year, after year, after year, they are not disappointed.
Last Saturday, from just after 4 p.m. to after 11 p.m. the west coast was home to one of the biggest fetes for the season. Not necessarily in size, since the place was not packed to capacity, but in terms of vibes, hype and a festive party atmosphere.
The collective efforts of DJs Mayhem Sounds, Scott and Mali Fresh and Alvin Toppin kept the sound of big bad soca blasting from the speakers. Those present could not contain themselves when they heard the pulsating rhythms.
There were live performances by some of the island’s top entertainers and those up-and-coming with popular songs. The General, Edwin Yearwood, Peter Ram, Holla Back, JusD, Stiffy and Lil Rick took the party to another level.
It was hit after hit from each of them which caused even those who were in the pool to shake a leg.
Politicians from the ruling Barbados Labour Party were present and accounted for. That was to be expected since their colleague Minister of Energy and Water Resources Wilfred Abrahams is a co-promoter of the event.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley arrived just before 8 p.m. She mingled and socialized for the majority of the night opting not to be photographed. Others spotted were: Attorney General Dale Marshall, Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs Marsha Caddle, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Indar Weir, Minister of Blue Economy Kirk Humphrey and Minister in the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elderly Care Neil Rowe.
Other familiar faces were spotted in the crowd as well including Chairman PVH Group Inc and General Manager of CGI Insurance Peter Harris, announcer Carol Roberts and clerk of Parliament Pedro Eastmond. (IMC)
