No criminal conviction was recorded against an American visitor who struck a man in police custody with a Bible.
New Yorker Alexa Renea Pierre appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today where she pleaded guilty to assaulting Pedro Caddle with the holy book yesterday.
According to the prosecutor, Pierre, who was due to leave the country today, became a victim of aggravated burglary at the place where she was staying.
She later went to Oistins Police Station to identify her property and saw Caddle there. She took up a small Bible which was on a nearby desk and threw it at his face.
Caddle requested that she be charged with assault.
In mitigating on her behalf, attorney-at-law Mohia Ma’at told the magistrate that, among other things, his 26-year-old client was not known to the courts while Caddle was known and he had been literally “hit by the word”.
Following the mitigation the magistrate gave Pierre an absolute discharge before allowing her to leave the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court.
