Veteran entertainers Ricky Lil Rick Reid and Michael Mikey Mercer are the proud recipients of Mazda 3 vehicles valued at $79,900 compliments McEnearney Quality Inc.
Customer Service Experience and Service Manager at McEnearney Quality Inc presented the cars which were a part of their winnings for the Party Monarch and Sweet Soca competitions.
Hoyte told the media that the company decided to sponsor the two vehicles because it believes in supporting the cultural industries of Barbados.
“Along with Consolidated Finance, we also sponsored the festival band designer… It is not only about the promotion and getting the sales back. It’s about supporting culture, supporting the youth. When it comes to culture and sports, we always try to push and make an effort to be involved in those events,” she said.
Lil Rick who is the reigning International Bashment Soca Monarch, Foreday Morning Jam Tune of the Crop, Road March and Sweet Soca Monarch, said it was a good feeling to still be considered relevant and current in Barbadian society.
“I always put everything into my work and my song even when I am performing, no matter how big or how small the crowd is. It is a good feeling,” he said.
The veteran entertainer with more than two decades in the calypso arena said a lot of planning went into releasing multiple songs; some of the hits were Mudda Sally, Ben It, Breakfast In Bed and True Story.
“It is a history that was created. I do not know if I can get it done again but I will try,” he told members of the media.
Lil Rick said his blue Mazda 3 will be heading to his home town St Philip and if he could have driven it home, he would surely take the offer.
“I would like to drive it off now… Well, the vehicle is staying home,” he said chuckling.
He also noted that there are plans in the works for him to re-enter the Pic-O-De-Crop competition but nothing is finite as yet.
“I am looking into it. It is not nothing direct as yet but I will give it some thought and some injection,” he said.
Meanwhile, recently crowned Party Monarch Mikey, who’s also the strongest man in Barbados, said it was a fantastic feeling to win Party Monarch and receive such a ‘beautiful vehicle’.
“I am extremely happy and thankful for MQI for putting it forward as a prize and I am even happier about winning it. It is a fantastic feeling to be Party Monarch once again. It is something I cannot put in words,” he said, adding that he may be trading in his Mazda 3 for a truck.
“I am not sure as yet. I may trade it in for something a little taller as I am into trucks but [there are] some really comfortable trucks here as well so I know those are the options. I will be looking into that,” he said. (LG)
