The winner of the award by the GWP & Co. Scholarship Trust for the two-year period 2018/19 and 2019/20 is 21-year-old Shaddiah Hinds of Barnwell Gap, Rock Hall, St Thomas. The successful applicant was educated at Hillaby-Turners Primary School, Queens College and the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies. She enrolled in the law faculty at Cave Hill in 2015 and graduated with first class honours at the end of three years of study earlier this year.
Ms Hinds who actively participated in extra-curricular activities from primary school through to University was also a Sunday school teacher at Revival Faith Centre at Dunscombe in St. Thomas.
Shaddiah is now enrolled in the two-year Legal Education Certificate programme at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago which is a requirement for her to practice as an Attorney-at-Law. The scholarship award includes an internship with the law firm George Walton Payne & Co., at the end of her first year. Shaddiah will have the opportunity to gain valuable guidance from the senior members of the company’s staff before embarking on the final year of her studies at the Hugh Wooding Law School.
The award was presented to the Ms Hinds during a short ceremony at Dowell Chambers, Bridgetown, by Attorney-at-Law and staff member, Ms Jewel Barrow. Her mother, Sheldine Hinds, six-year-old brother Shadarri Hinds-Hewitt, two former scholarship winners Traimaine Taylor and Kavíar Callendar as well as Darwin Goodridge, the Secretary/Treasurer of the Scholarship Trust were on hand to celebrate her achievement.
