University head assisting police with investigations

The chief executive officer of Washington University of Barbados, Gopi Venkat Rao, is currently in custody assisting the Criminal Investigations Department with a probe, the Royal Barbados Police Force has said.

The head of the medical school was escorted off the Oldbury, St Philip campus, in handcuffs yesterday, flanked by two officers.

Rao is allegedly wanted in India for bilking thousands of dollars from hundreds of students with promises of admissions into foreign medical universities.

  • Every day Barbados is sounding like it is downing in problems after problems. They got to be about 30 major issues and more going on right now in Barbados.

Everyone seems to SO SMART with they quick solutions but not smart enough to implement an effective solutions. Could it because the're always shouting and not listening?

  • Another one bites the dust. We like it so! Anything/Anyone foreign: Welcome here!! We bypass due diligence and get banged-up for nonexistence bucks.

We just don't learn from lessons of the past

  • A few months ago Carson Cadogan was giving us chapter and verse on the ins and outs of Ross University. You notice he did touch this one, not even with a ten foot pole other than give a milquetoast comment above. This is too close to home for comfort

  • @Belfast, Once he/she get "a lil something in the pocket" , who cares …...It's all bout "WHAT'S IN TI FOR ME".

  • I am at a lost. Bajans at every opportunity let us know which brand name school they attended. We probably have more Phd Doctors per square mile ,than any other place on earth. Yet time after time ,people with seemingly less education come into Barbados , pull the wool over our eyes and scam us all the way to the bank.

  • If Gopi gets charged in Barbados, what will it take for the local police to charge Donville Inniss amidst the abundance of evidence for bribery and money laundering?

  • Distressing to say the least. Unfortunately Bim has always demonstrated an eagerness to embrace anything foreign, whether it be goods...or investors with eloquent words and charismatic demeanours. These unscrupulous persons prey on so-called 'third world countries' with one goal in mind...to enrich themselves. Unfortunately it continues.
