Three men charged in connection with seizure of guns, ammunition and drugs

Three men were arrested and charged in connection with the seizure of guns, ammunition and illegal drugs during a recent police operation at Roach Village, St George.

Officers from the Anti-Gun and Gangs Unit, the Major Crime Unit, the Tactical Response Unit , the Canine Unit and the Drug Squad conducted the exercise at the Survival Bar owned by Denis Alphonso Maynard last Saturday.

Maynard, 55, was charged with unlawful possession of one 40 calibre firearm; unlawful possession of one 22 calibre firearm; unlawful possession of 16 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition; unlawful possession of four rounds of .22 calibre ammunition; unlawful possession of 14 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun ammunition, unlawful possession of five rounds of 9mm ammunition and unlawful possession of cannabis. He was expected to appear in the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court today.

Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Antonio Eric Trotman of Pasture Road, Bank Hall, St Michael was also charged with unlawful possession of one .22 calibre firearm; unlawful possession of .22 ammunition and unlawful possession of six grams of cannabis.

When Trotman appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith Bovell at the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court today, he pleaded guilty to the possession of cannabis. He was placed on a bond to keep the peace for 12 months or spend three months in prison. He was not required to plead to the other two offences, which are both, indictable.

Trotman was remanded to Dodds and is scheduled to reappear at the District ‘B’ Court on November 5.

Meanwhile, 22–year-old Daniel Akeem Hurley of 2nd Avenue Peterkin, Bank Hall, St Michael was charged with unlawful possession of eight rounds of .32 calibre ammunition.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to Dodds.

Hurley will reappear at the District B court on November 5.
