Students and teachers of the Eden Lodge Primary School were recently bowled over when former international cricketer Dwayne Smith made a generous donation of cricket gear to the learning institution.
Smith, a former student of the school, said the donation was something that he wanted to do for several years but he was delayed due to not having enough items that he wanted to share with the young aspiring cricketers.
“For me it means a lot because Eden Lodge Primary is where I started my cricket career and I remember the teachers were always backing me. For me to come back and give to the youngsters something is something I have always wanted to do,” he said.
“Now that I have my own sports shop and own cricket line that I will be launching in a few months’ time, I think it is best to start with Eden Lodge Primary,” said Smith, who said he would also make a donation to the Graydon Sealy Secondary School.
Pledging continued support for the cricketers at the Eden Lodge Primary, the Barbadian all-rounder said he hoped the donation of cricket bats, balls and shin pads would play an integral role in the school’s performance in future tournaments.
Officials of the school thanked Smith for his generosity, adding that staff and students were very happy for the donation and they would be seeking to forge an ongoing relationship with him.
