One of the organizations involved in assisting Barbadians with cancer and their families is embarking on an intense fundraising campaign over the next year as it seeks to improve its facilities and the services it offers.
President of Cancer Support Services (CSS), Henderson Griffith, said “we are raising funds aggressively from now into next year, primarily because we are planning to move to another facility and enhance the health programmes we offer to Barbadians.”
Some fundraising events planned include a lecture on November 1, and “between November 12 and 14 we will be holding a golf tournament for the second year in a row. [It’s] an initiative started by the son of one of our previous patients who [appreciated] what we did for his mother and this is his way of giving back to us. We are also hosting a tea party at the Barbados Yacht Club on November 24,” Griffith added.
His comments came shortly after Cancer Support Services signed an agreement with Spectrum Radiology Services Inc., in which that company will donate $25 from every service it performs to CSS.
Director of Spectrum Dr Shazad Mohamed, who also presented CSS with a personal cheque valued at $1,000, stated that “for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are also offering a discount on breast ultrasounds. Regarding the contribution to CSS, we will do that until the end of the month. We want to continue this for every month in 2019 because cancer wreaks havoc on families and patients and this organisation does a really good job supporting people affected by this illness.”
Griffith added that apart from the contributions from Spectrum this month, some hairdressers and beauticians also came on board and donated a portion of their earnings to Cancer Support Services, and “we are hoping for bigger and better things in 2019. These funds will help us meet our objectives”.
