Teachers at Luther Thorne Memorial School were showered with praise and received tokens of appreciation from parents and members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
Public Relations Officer Laurie Blackman said the idea to honour 37 members of staff was a way to say thank you.
“This has been a wonderful morning here at Luther Thorne Memorial School. We really appreciate the teachers and for the third year in a row, we decided to take a special moment so the children can express their appreciation for the teachers. This year, the added element was getting the parents involved so one parent from each class group took time out of their schedules to come this morning and be involved,” Blackman said, adding that the relationship between teachers and parents is a factor of the success seen at the school.
“I think it is important for schools to have a very strong parent-teacher relationship and that has paid off here at Luther Thorne. The teachers and the parents work together on all kinds of projects. We do beautification projects, we do fun raising projects, and I think it has helped the entire atmosphere and environment at the school to thrive and flourish. We are very happy about that,” she said.
Principal of the school, Debbie Bovell, was lost for words as she gave the closing remarks after receiving a token of appreciation from a parent of a class four student.
“Parents and guardians, you have taken time out of your busy schedules to share your words of encouragement and appreciation. The truth is I can never adequately convey how we feel about this presentation today. The words are not quite there… we are blessed to have such a strong PTA at this school which has gone all out to ensure that the teachers feel appreciated. Thank you very much,” Bovell said.
The teachers were also treated to entertainment from Damien Marvay who performed a stripped-down version of his hit song Know The Face and encouraged students to honour and respect their teachers. (LG)
